The S-CSCF considers user preferences, service profiles, and network conditions to determine the best routing path for the call.
  3. Call Control and Feature Invocation: During a call setup, the S-CSCF can invoke additional services or features requested by the user. These services can include call forwarding, call waiting, call transfer, and multimedia services like video conferencing or file sharing. The S-CSCF interacts with Application Servers (AS) to provide these services and features to the user.
  4. Quality of Service (QoS) Management: The S-CSCF plays a role in managing the Quality of Service for the communication session. It ensures that the necessary QoS parameters, such as bandwidth, latency, and packet loss, are maintained to deliver a satisfactory user experience. The S-CSCF can interact with Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) and other network elements to enforce QoS policies and manage resource allocation.

Session Modification and Termination: During an ongoing session, the S-CSCF handles session modifications, such as adding or removing media streams, changing codecs, or adjusting session parameters. It also manages call termination when the user ends the call or encounters an error condition. The S-CSCF releases resources and updates the session status accordingly.
