mme architecture
The MME (Mobility Management Entity) is a core component of the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) architecture in LTE (Long-Term Evolution) networks. It plays a central role in the management of user mobility and is responsible for tasks related to session management and subscriber management.
MME Functions:

- Control Plane: The MME operates in the control plane of the LTE network. It communicates with other EPC entities, such as the Serving Gateway (SGW), Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW), and Home Subscriber Server (HSS), using various interfaces like S11, S6a, and S10.
- Interface Connections:
- S11 Interface: It connects the MME with the Serving Gateway (SGW) and is used for the control plane signaling related to bearer management and mobility management.
- S6a Interface: It connects the MME with the Home Subscriber Server (HSS) for authentication and subscriber data retrieval.
- S10 Interface: It connects different MMEs for inter-MME procedures like handover preparation and TAU (Tracking Area Update) procedures.
- Subscriber Management: The MME maintains subscriber context information, including subscriber profiles, security parameters, and location information. It interacts with the HSS to retrieve subscriber data and perform authentication procedures.
- Mobility Management: The MME handles mobility-related procedures, such as Tracking Area Updates (TAU), handovers between eNodeBs, and Mobility Management Entity (MME) selection during initial attach and handover scenarios.
