5g interfaces list

The 5G standard has defined several interfaces to facilitate communication between different network elements. Here are some key interfaces in a 5G network:

  1. NG-RAN (Next-Generation Radio Access Network) Interfaces:
    • N1: Interface between UE (User Equipment) and gNB (gNodeB)
    • N2: Interface between gNBs
    • N3: Interface between gNB and AMF (Access and Mobility Management Function)
  2. NG Core (Next-Generation Core) Network Interfaces:
    • N4: Interface between UPF (User Plane Function) and SMF (Session Management Function)
    • N6: Interface between UPF and AMF for non-roaming scenarios
    • N8: Interface between SMF and PCF (Policy Control Function)
    • N12: Interface between AMF and UDM (Unified Data Management)
    • N13: Interface between UDM and AUSF (Authentication Server Function)
    • N15: Interface between UDM and UDR (Unified Data Repository)
  3. Non-3GPP Interworking Interfaces:
    • S1: Interface between eNB (LTE base station) and EPC (Evolved Packet Core) in 4G
    • Xn: Interface between gNBs for inter-gNB communication
    • SBI (Service Based Interface): Allows communication between 5G and non-3GPP networks
  4. Reference Point Interfaces (NG-RAN to NG Core):
    • E1: Interface between gNB and AMF
    • E2: Interface between AMF and SMF
    • E3: Interface between SMF and UPF
    • E4: Interface between AMF and UDM
    • E5: Interface between UDM and AUSF
    • E6: Interface between UDM and UDR
  5. User Plane Protocol Stack (PDU) Interfaces:
    • NG-U: User plane interface between gNB and UPF
